Past Generation Wisdom
Here at Dear Samfu, we believe in remembering the good values of the past to guide our future. Our grandmothers actually knew responsibility and sustainability better than us. Experiencing clothing before the ubiquity of mass production, they valued quality over quantity. They were intimately involved in their clothing purchases - from selecting fabrics thoughtfully to meeting their tailors personally.

Progress, not perfection
In the spirit of past generation values, we aim to minimize our footprint, which we acknowledge is very challenging as makers of clothing. To us, it means more than just being sustainable or eco-friendly. We want to take a holistic approach to sustainability by striving to become the most responsible version of ourselves ✌️. Responsibility means putting heart into everything we do, making conscious and considerate decisions in all our choices big or small from processes, to materials and production, just as grandma did

Processes
We intentionally avoid pursuing fleeting trends, committing ourselves only to timeless designs that stay true to what we stand for. In addition, we produce in small batches only, ensuring quality over quantity in our designs. All so that you can keep your garment in use for as long as possible.

Materials
Dear Samfu started out using only deadstock fabrics sourced from around Southeast Asia. These are end of roll fabrics often left behind by larger manufacturers. Beyond deadstock, we now use natural materials like cotton, linen and lyocell. We source these fabrics from responsible sources like GOTS certified organic cotton and Tencel where possible. We avoid polyester, even in our trims, linings and labels. We think it’s also cool that our buttons are made out of imitation shell, recycled plastic or corozo. Head over to our Our Fabrics page to find out more.

Production
We carefully select partners around Asia who are open about their manufacturing conditions and workers’ benefits, while maintaining a high standard of quality. We currently manufacture with a women-owned and operated atelier in Cambodia and small factories in China and Vietnam.

Packaging
We pack your orders with as little packaging as possible. We refrain from using virgin plastic throughout our supply chain, working with our suppliers to pack pieces in. In place of virgin plastics, we use recycled paper mailers as packaging and postcards printed on recycled paper.

Community
We believe in giving back to the community and supporting people in need. Every year, we intentionally give a portion of proceeds from our pop up events, special collections or design collaborations to selected charities supporting underprivileged women and elder care in Singapore.
